This is a vintage Japanese Ko Bako or Personal Storage Box with drawers that was made from Paulownia (Kirinoki) and other woods from early Showa period (1940's).
Originally used to store notes, ephemera, photos, stationery and anything else that would fit in the drawers, its present day use works very well as a jewelry box, a cosmetic box, or a convenient place to store bills and receipts.
