This is a vintage Japanese Ko Bako or Personal Storage Box with drawers that was made from Paulownia (Kirinoki) wood from early Showa period (1920's-1940's).
Originally used to store notes, ephemera, photos, stationery and anything else that would fit in the drawers, its present day use works very well as a jewelry box, a cosmetic box, or a convenient place to store bills and receipts.
