This is a vintage Japanese 3 section stacking Kimono chest called Isho Tansu from Taisho period (1920's-1940's).

It was constructed entirely of Paulownia wood (Japanese Kirinoki).  The solid wood is thick and solid making it a clothes storage bureau to last for many generations to come.
