Vintage Japanese Kimono Hanger, Showa Era (SKU 25D-003-2)

Elegant mid‑century wooden ikou with classic curved bar and floral openwork base

This vintage Japanese kimono hanger, or ikou, features a beautifully arched upper bar reminiscent of a sword stand, designed to display a formal kimono in full width. Crafted in warm-toned hardwood with a smooth, semi-gloss finish, its slender uprights and horizontal rail create a light, refined silhouette ideal for showcasing textiles without distraction.

Along the base, a continuous panel is embellished with a series of carved plum-blossom style medallions, each pierced to allow light to pass through and highlight the natural wood grain. Stepped feet provide a stable foundation and add a subtle architectural presence, making this Showa-era piece equally suited for use in a tokonoma alcove, boutique display, or as a sculptural stand for obi and other garments in a modern interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
