Vintage Japanese Tetsubin Kettle, Iron, 1970s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-187-3)
Low, sculptural tetsubin with warm, timeworn patina from mid‑Showa Japan.
This vintage Japanese iron kettle, or tetsubin, features an elegant, low-slung profile with a sharply defined shoulder and gently tapered spout. The surface is finished in a deep charcoal black with reddish-brown highlights where the original firing and decades of use have softly burnished the iron, giving the piece an understated wabi-sabi presence.
A sturdy fixed handle rises in a generous arc above the lid, which is fitted with a simple loop finial for easy lifting. Subtle concentric bands encircle the body, adding quiet visual rhythm without distracting from the kettle’s minimalist Showa-era design. Displayed in a tokonoma, on a tea shelf, or incorporated into a daily tea ritual, this compact tetsubin brings the quiet charm of 1970s Japanese craftsmanship to any space.
