Vintage Japanese Tetsubin Kettle, Iron (SKU 25D-187-2)

Showa-era tetsubin with dynamic dragon-and-waves relief and sculpted finial

This vintage Japanese iron kettle, or tetsubin, presents a powerful dragon in high relief soaring above stylised waves, a classic auspicious motif symbolising strength, protection, and good fortune. The dark, gently patinated surface highlights the hammered texture and crisp casting, giving the body a rich, tactile presence that speaks to careful Showa-period craftsmanship.

A sculpted pine-cone style lid finial and decorative handle mounts echo traditional kama fittings, while the tall swing handle and elegantly curved spout balance the robust form. Suitable as a display piece in a chashitsu or as an atmospheric accent in any interior, this kettle captures the spirit of mid-20th-century Japanese tea culture.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
