Vintage Japanese Kettle, Iron (SKU 25D-428-5)

Showa-era tetsubin with chrysanthemum relief and classic geometric band

This vintage Japanese iron kettle, or tetsubin, presents a graceful, rounded profile with a sturdy fixed handle and finely pebbled surface. Around the shoulder runs a crisp key-fret (sayagata) band, while the domed lid is crowned with a naturalistic finial and accented by raised characters, giving the piece a dignified, traditional presence suitable for both use and display.

The body is richly decorated with chrysanthemum blossoms and foliage in high relief, a classic autumn motif symbolizing longevity and refinement in Japanese tea culture. The interior shows the warm patina of age, while the exterior retains a deep, even iron tone, making this Showa-period kettle an evocative addition to a chanoyu setting or a focused collection of Japanese metalwork.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
