Vintage Japanese Kettle, Iron, 1950s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-428-3)

Showa-era tetsubin with rustic cylindrical form and pinecone finial

This vintage Japanese iron kettle, or tetsubin, presents a strikingly simple cylindrical body contrasted by a gracefully curved spout and tall swing handle. The surface is finished in a deeply textured, charcoal-black patina that speaks to mid-20th-century Showa aesthetics—functional, unadorned, yet quietly refined for the daily tea ritual.

A sculpted pinecone-style lid knob crowns the flat lid, adding a subtle natural motif often associated with longevity and resilience in Japanese design. The interior shows honest age and use, while the sturdy handle and spout retain their strong silhouettes, making this kettle a characterful choice for a wabi-sabi tea corner, display with other Japanese antiques, or gentle decorative use in a modern interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
