Vintage Japanese Tetsubin Iron Kettle With Dragon Motif, Showa Era (SKU 25D-428-2)

Showa-era dragon motif tetsubin with cast-iron body and brass lid

This vintage Japanese iron kettle, or tetsubin, features a powerful dragon swirling through stylized cloud scrolls around the flared body. The deeply textured iron surface has developed a rich, warm patina, speaking to years of careful use in the Japanese tea tradition while retaining a strong, sculptural presence on the hearth or tokonoma.

A contrasting brass lid, finely cast with bats in flight and a chrysanthemum-form boss, adds an elegant accent and lifts easily with its rounded finial. With its generous arched handle, classic side spout, and auspicious combination of dragon, cloud, and bat motifs, this kettle is ideal as a display-worthy chadōgu or as a characterful accent in any wabi-sabi inspired interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
