Vintage Japanese Tetsubin Iron Kettle "Arare Texture" - 1940s Showa Era (25D-069)

Showa-era tetsubin with classic arare hobnail pattern and signed body

This vintage Japanese iron kettle, or tetsubin, presents a beautifully rounded form crowned with a dense arare (hailstone) hobnail texture. The surface has matured to a deep, warm brown with areas of reddish patina, giving the piece an understated wabi-sabi character that reflects decades of careful use in the Japanese tea ritual.

A gracefully arched fixed handle rises from sturdy lugs, framing the low lid with its sculpted finial. One side of the body bears a crisp maker’s seal in relief, adding both visual interest and provenance. Whether displayed in a tokonoma alcove or used as a functional accent in a tea corner, this Showa-period iron kettle brings an authentic touch of traditional Japanese craftsmanship to any interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
