Showa-era cast iron tsuri-dōrō with richly weathered wabi-sabi patina
This spherical vintage Japanese hanging lantern, or tsuri-dōrō, is crafted in heavy cast iron with an intricate openwork pattern that scatters light in soft, organic shapes. The body rests on three small feet, allowing it to be used either as a hanging lantern or as a low-standing accent for an entryway, garden alcove, or interior tokonoma.
Decades of outdoor use have given the surface a deep, even rusted finish that embodies the Japanese appreciation for wabi-sabi—beauty in age and imperfection. A gourd-shaped finial and circular suspension ring crown the lantern, while the original iron chain remains attached, making it ideal for authentic Showa-period ambiance in a tea garden, porch, or curated interior display.
A characterful Showa-era piece that brings the quiet glow of a traditional Japanese garden into any space.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
