Vintage Japanese Go Board, Showa Era (SKU 25M-381)

Showa-period floor goban with 19x19 grid and original Go stones

This substantial vintage goban is a classic Japanese floor Go board, crafted from a single thick block of warm-toned wood and raised on four carved kuruma-style feet. The 19x19 grid is hand-ruled in traditional fashion, its softly worn surface bearing the gentle patina and play marks that only decades of use can create.

Likely dating to the mid-Showa era, the board’s sides display attractive natural figuring, while the chamfered edges and rounded legs give it a grounded, architectural presence. Accompanied by sets of white and dark Go stones in simple storage boxes, this vintage Japanese Go board is ready for continued play or display as an evocative accent in a tokonoma, study, or game room.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
