This is a traditional Japanese shoe chest called Geta Bako from early Showa (1920's-1940's). It was constructed using Cypress (Hinoki) and Cryptomeria (Sugi) woods.
These chests would be found at the house entrance called Genkan where guests and residents would take off their shoes to store them before entering a home.
