Low Showa-era folding byobu with woven bamboo motif and floral brocade border
This vintage Japanese folding screen is a compact, low byobu designed to sit directly on the floor behind a tokonoma display, flower arrangement, tea ceremony or seasonal ornament. One side is finished in a warm chestnut tone with an intricate woven bamboo pattern, framed by a simple wood border that highlights the geometric texture and subtle sheen of the surface.
The reverse side offers a quieter face with cream panels surrounded by a black fabric border patterned with small stylized sakura blossoms, allowing you to choose between a richly textured look or a refined, minimalist backdrop. Lightweight and easily folded, this Showa-era piece works beautifully as a vintage Japanese room divider, altar screen, or accent behind ceramics and ikebana.
A versatile Showa byobu that adds authentic Japanese character and a refined, textural backdrop to any display.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
