Vintage Japanese Kaeru Frog Statue (SKU 25D-363)

Charming vintage ceramic frog with baby, inspired by Japan’s auspicious “kaeru” motif.

This vintage Japanese frog statue captures a tender moment between a plump parent frog and its small offspring perched protectively on its back. Hand-molded in a rustic, almost folk-sculptural style, the piece is finished in a mottled yellow-brown glaze that evokes the earthy tones of a garden pond, with dark accents that emphasize the eyes, limbs, and organic surface texture.

In Japan, the frog, or kaeru, is a beloved symbol of safe returns, prosperity, and good fortune, making this statue an ideal engimono (lucky charm) for an entryway, alcove, or desk. Its weighty ceramic body and glossy patina suggest mid-20th-century studio production, while the whimsical yet serene expression lends warmth and character to both traditional and modern interiors.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
