Showa-era Japanese craftsmanship with warm aged patina
This vintage Japanese piece is a solid-wood low table, or chabudai, rather than a statue, showcasing the honest utility and charm of mid-20th-century Showa design. The thick single-panel top has softly rounded corners and a rich, dark stain that has mellowed over time, revealing the natural grain and character marks from decades of use.
Underneath, the table features a robust framework with fixed legs and traditional joinery, along with hand-brushed Japanese script that hints at its workshop origin or former household. Ideal as a tea table, display platform for a Kannon statue or other butsugu, or as a characterful coffee table in a wabi-sabi interior, it brings an authentic vintage Japanese presence to any space.
A versatile Showa-era chabudai that pairs beautifully with Japanese antiques, from Kannon statues to everyday tea ware.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
