Vintage Japanese Folding Table, Showa Era (SKU 25D-273-1)

Showa-era low folding chabudai in warm, dark-stained hardwood

This vintage Japanese folding table, or chabudai, captures the relaxed intimacy of traditional floor-seated living. Crafted from solid hardwood with a rich, dark-brown finish, the plank top shows attractive grain and gentle rounding to the corners and edges, giving it a soft, time-worn presence ideal for a tatami room, tea corner, or minimalist interior.

Underneath, the neatly engineered folding legs tuck flat into the underside of the top, allowing the piece to store easily against a wall or in a narrow closet when not in use. Sturdy yet compact, it works beautifully as a tea table, casual dining table, or low coffee table, bringing an authentic mid-Showa aesthetic to contemporary spaces.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
