Vintage Japanese Folding Table, 1940s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-102)

Showa-era circular zaisu-height chabudai with rich wood grain and folding legs

This vintage Japanese folding table is a classic low chabudai form, ideal for floor seating in a tatami room or modern living space. The round top showcases beautifully figured wood grain in a warm, reddish-brown tone, giving the piece a quiet presence that harmonizes easily with both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Underneath, sturdy hinged legs fold neatly into a compact profile, allowing the table to be stored flat against a wall or in a tansu when not in use—an ingenious Showa-era solution for small-space living. Light surface marks consistent with age add to its vintage character while preserving a clean, usable top surface.

A versatile Showa-era chabudai that brings authentic Japanese warmth and practicality to any room.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
