Vintage Japanese Ikebana Flower Basket, 1980s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-461-2)

Showa-era bamboo hanakago with sculptural openwork form and removable bamboo liner.

This vintage Japanese flower basket, or hanakago, showcases the refined latticework associated with late Showa-period bamboo craft. Finely split strips are woven into a rhythmic open mesh that swells into a soft, organic sphere, then tilts forward to present flowers in a relaxed, contemporary gesture while still rooted in the aesthetics of ikebana.

A small circular foot and integrated inner ring support the composition, while the separate cylindrical bamboo insert functions as a water container, allowing fresh arrangements without compromising the lightness of the weave.
