Showa-era hanging bamboo hanakago with sculptural openwork weave

This vintage Japanese flower basket, or hanakago, is woven in a bold, architectural style that celebrates the natural character of bamboo. Slender strips are layered in dynamic chevrons over a square base, creating a light, open structure that beautifully frames seasonal branches and grasses in the nageire manner. The warm, variegated patina speaks to years of careful handling and adds depth to the intricate pattern.
