Vintage Japanese Ikebana Flower Basket, 2000s, Heisei Era (SKU 25D-005-1)

Heisei-era bamboo hanakago with elegant tall handle and removable black lacquer liner for refined ikebana display.

This vintage Japanese flower basket, or hanakago, showcases the warm reddish tones of finely split bamboo woven in a tight, rhythmic asanoha-style pattern. The rim is reinforced with vertical bamboo strips and finished with darker rattan binding, creating a handsome contrast that highlights the craftsman’s attention to detail.

Raised on four sturdy bamboo legs with braided rattan accents and fitted with a tall, arching handle, the basket is both sculptural and practical. A cylindrical black lacquered insert is included, allowing it to be used safely for fresh flowers in the tea ceremony alcove, as an ikebana vase, or as a striking decorative object in a contemporary interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
