Vintage Japanese Ikebana Flower Basket, Showa Era (SKU 25D-013-3)

Showa-era kakehana basket with dramatic sunburst slats and original bamboo water tube

This vintage Japanese flower basket is a striking example of mid-20th century bamboo craftsmanship, designed for ikebana or kakehana (hanging flower) display. The body is tightly woven in a warm, dark-stained bamboo, while long, vertical splints radiate outward to create a dynamic, sunburst silhouette that plays beautifully with light and shadow.

An inner black bamboo cylinder serves as a removable water container, allowing fresh stems to be arranged securely while preserving the integrity of the woven form. Subtle color variations in the smoked bamboo and a small braided hanging loop add depth and character, making this piece equally suited to contemporary tokonoma alcoves or modern wabi-sabi interiors.
