Finely woven Showa-era bamboo hanakago with twisted handle and inner bamboo liner

This vintage Japanese flower basket, or hanakago, showcases the quiet refinement of mid-Showa bamboo craft. Slender, evenly split strips of warm reddish-brown bamboo are tightly woven into an elegant, slightly tapering body, finished with a beautifully braided rim. The tall, twisted handle rises gracefully from the shoulders, giving the piece a sculptural silhouette ideal for chabana or seasonal ikebana displays.

An openwork square base lightens the form and reveals the maker’s technical control, while the removable cylindrical bamboo liner allows fresh arrangements without stressing the basket itself.
