Vintage Japanese Fishing Float, 1990s, Heisei Era (SKU 25D-322)
Hand-blown green glass ukidama with original rope harness from Japan’s coastal fisheries
This vintage Japanese fishing float, or ukidama, is crafted from thick green glass and wrapped in a traditional hand-tied hemp-style net. Once used by fishermen to keep their drift nets buoyant on the open sea, it now brings an authentic maritime accent to interiors, evoking the quiet harbors and rugged shores of coastal Japan.
The float shows the subtle irregularities, air bubbles, and waviness characteristic of hand-blown glass, while the rope harness is richly textured with tight, symmetrical knots and a practical carrying loop. Beautiful displayed in a window, on a shelf, or as part of a nautical vignette, this Heisei-era piece adds genuine Japanese fishing heritage to any coastal or wabi-sabi inspired space.
