Vintage Japanese Fishing Float, 1990s, Heisei Era (SKU 25D-301)
Deep green glass ukidama encased in original working net, evoking the spirit of Japan’s coastal fisheries.
This vintage Japanese fishing float, or ukidama, features a richly toned green glass sphere held in a robust black rope harness. Once used by fishermen to keep longlines and nets buoyant at sea, it now brings authentic maritime character to interiors, with subtle bubbles, ripples, and surface wear that speak to years of practical use.
The hand-tied netting retains its handsome, slightly weathered texture, with honest fraying at several knots that enhances its wabi-sabi appeal. Whether styled as a sculptural object on the floor, grouped with other vintage Japanese fishing floats, or suspended for dramatic coastal décor, this piece offers a genuine fragment of Heisei-era seafaring life.
