Vintage Japanese Ukidama Fishing Float, 1980s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-058)

Hand-blown emerald-green glass float in original working net

This vintage Japanese fishing float, or ukidama, features a rich emerald-green glass body cradled in its original rope harness. Once used by coastal fishermen to keep longlines and nets afloat, it now brings authentic maritime character and a soft, oceanic glow to interiors when displayed near natural light.

The thick glass shows subtle waviness, seed bubbles, and tooling lines typical of mid–late Showa-era production, while the pale rope netting retains a pleasing, timeworn texture. Whether hung in a window, grouped with other Japanese glass fishing floats, or styled as a sculptural accent, this piece offers a genuine fragment of seafaring history.

  • Origin: Japan
  • Era: Showa period, circa 1980s
  • Material: Hand-blown glass with rope netting

A classic Showa-era ukidama that brings the quiet romance of Japan’s working sea to any coastal-inspired space.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
