Vintage Japanese Bronze Ryu Dragon Statue (SKU 25D-486)

Finely cast bronze ryū coiled around the sacred tama, on a lacquered display base

This dramatic vintage Japanese dragon statue captures the sinuous movement and fierce dignity of the ryū, guardian of water and bringer of good fortune. Cast in dark bronze with a rich, time-softened patina, the dragon arches across a glossy black stand, its body lifted in a powerful curve as it supports a luminous crystal sphere representing the wish‑fulfilling jewel, or tama.

Every scale, claw, and whisker is crisply modeled, from the layered spines along the back to the expressive, open-mouthed head. Likely from the Shōwa era, this sculptural piece reads beautifully from all angles and serves as a striking focal point for a tokonoma alcove, office, or curated collection of Japanese bronze art.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
