Vintage Japanese Door, 1960s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-361-1)

Two-panel Japanese sudare screen door with warm cedar grain and woven reed infill

This vintage Japanese door is crafted in the manner of a sudare screen, pairing a slender wooden frame with closely spaced reed slats to filter light and air. The lower and central rails showcase beautifully figured softwood boards, whose flowing grain adds a subtle decorative banding against the fine vertical rhythm of the reeds.

Configured as a hinged two-panel partition, it works equally well as a room divider, shoji-style doorway, or freestanding accent in an entry, living space, or tea room. The natural materials and understated design embody Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetics, bringing texture, warmth, and a sense of calm to both traditional and contemporary interiors.

A versatile Showa-era piece that brings authentic Japanese texture and gentle, filtered light into any space.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
