Vintage Japanese Crane Statue (SKU 25D-277-3)

Showa-era bronze crane with graceful feeding pose and timeworn patina

This vintage Japanese crane statue captures the elegant moment of a tsuru lowering its head to feed, a classic motif symbolising longevity and good fortune. Cast in metal with finely chased feathers and long attenuated legs, the piece has developed a soft greenish-brown patina that speaks to its mid-20th century Showa era origins and years of display.

The crane’s beak clasps a small catch, adding a subtle sense of movement and character, while the textured wings and tail give depth from every angle. Ideal as a wabi-sabi accent for a tokonoma alcove, tansu top, or modern interior, this vintage Japanese crane statue brings a quiet, sculptural presence and a touch of traditional garden statuary indoors.

  • Origin: Japan
  • Era: Showa period, mid-20th century (circa 1960s)
  • Material: Cast metal (likely bronze or brass alloy) with aged patina
  • Use: Interior display, tokonoma ornament, desk or shelf sculpture, small garden accent in a sheltered spot
  • Features: Detailed feather carving; slender legs and webbed feet; feeding pose; small ring element at beak; rich verdigris surface; expressive wabi-sabi character with visible age and oxidation
  • Dimensions: 14"W x 5 1/2"D x 12"H
  • Condition: Vintage patina with surface wear, oxidation, and minor rusting at leg joint consistent with age and use

A soulful Showa-era piece that brings the auspicious spirit of the Japanese crane into any curated space.
