Vintage Japanese "French Style" Kettle, Copper, Showa Era (SKU 25D-148-2)

Tall Showa-era copper yakan with warm aged patina and graceful arched handle

This vintage Japanese copper kettle is a strikingly tall, cylindrical form, typical of mid-Showa household wares. Hand-riveted brackets secure the slim swing handle, while the domed lid is finished with a small brass knop, giving the piece a subtly refined, almost industrial elegance that pairs beautifully with its rustic surface.

The body shows a deep reddish-brown patina with scattered verdigris highlights, speaking to decades of careful use. Inside, the metal has a softly worn, silvery tone, and the stout spout curves gently from the side, suggesting use as a hot-water or coffee pot rather than a standard tetsubin. Whether displayed in a wabi-sabi interior or used decoratively in a tea or coffee corner, it brings an authentic Showa-era presence to any space.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
