Vintage Japanese Chawan Tea Bowl (SKU 25D-234-13)
Subtle, wheel-thrown chawan with soft matte glaze and original signed tomobako box.
This vintage Japanese tea bowl presents a quiet, earthy presence, its gently flared form finished in a muted, matte glaze that shifts between warm taupe and soft ash tones. The exposed red clay foot and unglazed base reveal the potter’s wheel marks, giving the piece a tactile honesty that suits the wabi-sabi spirit of the Japanese tea ceremony.
Inside, a faint spiral and pale brush-like sweeps of glaze create a sense of movement, inviting contemplation as the bowl is cradled in both hands. Accompanied by its original kiri-wood tomobako, inscribed and stamped in sumi ink, this chawan is ideal for display or for daily use in a relaxed, modern chanoyu-inspired setting.
