Vintage Japanese Chawan Tea Bowl, Heisei Era (SKU 25D-234-16)
Hand-painted plum blossom yunomi with gold accents and signed tomobako
This charming vintage Japanese tea cup is decorated in the iro-e overglaze enamel style, with sprays of red plum blossoms and buds rising around the exterior. Soft grey-green glaze with a fine all-over crackle forms a calm backdrop for clouds of textured gold, evoking early spring mist in a traditional Japanese garden.
The cup is lightly thrown with a comfortable foot and a smooth, pale interior ideal for appreciating the colour of sencha or houjicha. It comes housed in its original signed wooden tomobako, inscribed with the motif and form and bearing the artist’s seal, making it a refined piece for daily tea or display in a Japanese ceramics collection.
