Showa-era cha tansu with striking grain, glass hikido, and classic mokko hardware for refined tea storage.
This vintage Japanese cha tansu is a beautifully balanced tea chest, designed to organize the utensils and vessels of the chadō tradition. The cabinet showcases a richly figured wood grain with a warm, lacquer-like finish, contrasted by a large glass hikido sliding door that reveals tiered shelves for displaying treasured teaware or ceramics.
Below, a combination of smooth-sliding panel doors and a vertical bank of drawers with elegant mokko-style pulls provide versatile storage for tea caddies, trays, and linens. Subtle carved details on the lower sliding doors and the rhythm of the drawer fronts give the piece a quiet architectural presence, making it equally suited as a focal point in a tokonoma-inspired alcove or as a functional storage tansu in a modern interior.
A refined Showa cha tansu that brings the calm order of the Japanese tea room into any living space.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
