This is a vintage 1 section Japanese tea chest called Cha Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's).
It was constructed out of Persimmon (Kakinoki),Horse chestnut (Tochinoki) and Paulownia (Kirinoki) woods. Persimmon wood has book-matched pattern and handles and pulll are made of wood instead of metal.
It was used in a Japanese home to store accoutrements for guest tea service as well as a chest to display holiday and seasonal decorations.
