Description

This is a vintage Japanese 1 section tea chest called Cha Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's). It was constructed out of Persimmon (Kakinoki),Horse chestnut (Tochinoki) and Paulownia (Kirinoki).

The Cha Tansu was often used to store accoutrements for guest tea service as well as a cabinet to display seasonal decorations.
