This is a vintage 1 section Japanese Cha Dansu, tea Chest from early Showa period (1920's).
It is made of Horse chestnuts (Tochinoki) and Paulownia (Kirinoki).
Tea chests were often used to display various items and would be always out in view, which is why tea chests were usually made of high quality and finely figured woods. This piece would be great for holding books in your living room, towels and linens in your bathroom, or to display a variety of items.
