This is a vintage 1 section Japanese tea chest called Cha Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's).
It is made of Horse Chestnut (Tochinoki) Paulownia (Kirinoki) and other woods.
Typically used in the guest entertaining room of the house. The shallow dimension of this tansu allows for placement in even the most narrow of hallways or entryways.
The open air design is great for display and the drawers and door cabinets allow for spacious storage.
