Description

This a vintage 1 section Japanese tea chest called Cha Tansu from Taisho period (1910's-1920's).  It was constructed out of Tamonoki (Japanese Ash) and Kirinoki (Paulownia),.

The tea chest was typically used in a Japanese home in the room similar to the western living room.  It was used to keep items for casual tea service as well as storage for an assortment of items for the home.
