This is a vintage 1 section Japanese Japanese Cha Tansu, tea chest made of a Zelkova (Keyaki) and Paulownia wood (Kirinoki) from Taisho (1910's-1920's). Typically used in the guest entertaining room of the house, the area where displays can be changed based on the seasons or special holiday celebrations.
The shallow dimension of this tansu allows for placement in even the most narrow of hallways or entryways.
