Vintage Japanese Calendar 1979, Showa Era (SKU 26M-HSATO1992)

Showa-era folk-art calendar in the vibrant stencil style of Keisuke Serizawa

This richly colored 1979 Japanese calendar is a classic example of mingei-inspired design, with each month rendered as an individual artwork. Bold hand-cut numerals, auspicious motifs and rhythmic borders are printed in saturated reds, blues and greens on soft washi, creating a striking balance between playful charm and refined composition.

Housed in its original textured paper portfolio and accompanied by a Japanese text sheet, the set reflects the influential calendar designs associated with Keisuke Serizawa. Whether framed individually or displayed as a complete suite, these sheets bring an authentic Showa-period warmth and graphic energy to any interior or collection of Japanese prints.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
