Vintage Japanese Calendar 1979, Showa Era (SKU 26M-HSATO1990)

Hand-printed katazome calendar in the folk-art tradition associated with Keisuke Serizawa.

This richly colored Japanese calendar set presents twelve individual sheets, each month designed with bold numerals, seasonal motifs and playful Western lettering. Printed on soft, lightly textured washi, the pages display the distinctive katazome stencil-dye technique that became synonymous with mid‑20th century mingei (folk craft) design, here revived for a 1990 edition of an earlier Shōwa-period calendar.

The cover sheet reads “1990 Calendar” in an ornate hand, while the inner colophon notes supervision and production by the Serizawa-style calendar association, echoing the celebrated work of Keisuke Serizawa. Vivid reds, blues, greens and yellows remain strong, making this set ideal for framing as individual prints or enjoyed together as a complete graphic art object.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
