Vintage Japanese Calendar 1979, Showa Era (SKU 26M-HSATO1987)

Colorful Showa 54 calendar on washi, in the folk-art spirit of Keisuke Serizawa

This vibrant 1979 (Showa 54) Japanese calendar is composed of individual hand-printed sheets, each month framed by playful illustrations of seasonal motifs and everyday life. The bold, almost calligraphic numerals and decorative borders echo the mingei (folk art) aesthetic made famous by Keisuke Serizawa, pairing Western-style lettering with traditional Japanese sensibilities.

Printed on softly textured washi paper and housed in its original titled folder, the set works beautifully today as a complete calendar artwork or as separate prints for framing. The saturated reds, blues, greens and golds remain crisp, offering a charming slice of late-Showa graphic design that bridges craft and modern illustration.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
