This is a vintage wooden Japanese Butsudan (literal meaning, "Buddha altar" or "House of Buddha") from early 1900's. It is an altar that is often found in temples and homes in Japan.
The Butsudan is a wooden cabinet with double 4 panels doors and inside is used for Buddha and buddhist related items called Butsugu such as cadndlesticks, incense burners, bells, hanging decorations and platforms for placing offering. (This Butsudan does not comes with Butsugu)
The doors are opened to display the icon during religious observances and closed before sunset.
Fine details accent this altar from the transom along the top front.
