This is a vintage Japanese Okimono, figurine of bronze deer, Shika dated mid. 1900's.
Deer in Japan are considered messengers to the gods in Shinto especially Kasuga Shirine in Nara prefecture where a white deer had arrived from Kashima Shrine as its divine messenger. It has become a symbol of the city of Nara. In Itsukushima Shrine in Miyajima at Hiroshima prefecture, are also sacred as divine messangers. Because it is sacred animal, deer are often found in Japanese art like Okimono (figurine) and Kakejiku (hanging scroll).
