Vintage Japanese Hibashi-Furin Myochin Fire Chopstick Wind Chime — Iron, 1950, Showa Era (25D-227-2)

Slender Showa-era hibashi fire tongs with original signed kiri-wood box

This elegant pair of antique Japanese fire tongs, or hibashi, dates from the early 20th century and comes housed in its original fitted wooden case. The iron shafts are beautifully simple and functional, designed for tending charcoal in a brazier or irori, with lightly rounded tips and understated forged heads tied with old cord.

The slim, rectangular box—likely paulownia (kiri) wood—retains its period paper labels with bold calligraphy, adding a refined Showa aesthetic and making this set ideal for display. Whether used alongside a traditional hibachi or as a decorative accent in a tea or interior setting, these tongs offer an authentic touch of Japanese hearth culture.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
