Vintage Japanese Altar Table (SKU 25D-453-5)
Showa-period kuro-urushi butsudan stand with gilt and maki-e dragon and pine motifs
This compact Japanese altar table, or shoku, is finished in deep black lacquer and richly accented with gold. Gently upturned ends frame the top platform, while the sides are adorned with scrolling maki-e vines, carved pine boughs, and gilt ribbing that catch the light and emphasize its tiered architectural form.
Made for use within a household butsudan shrine during the mid-Showa era, it would traditionally support offerings, incense, or a small image. Today it serves equally well as an evocative display stand for a favorite tea bowl, okimono, or incense burner, bringing an authentic touch of vintage Japanese craftsmanship to any interior.
