Vintage Japanese Panels Screen Divider, Showa Era (SKU 25D-135)

Showa-era four-panel bamboo and wood room divider with carved landscape base

This vintage Japanese 4-panel screen, or byōbu, combines a warm stained wood frame with finely strung bamboo slats to create a light, semi-transparent partition. The vertical bamboo reeds form a subtle, wavering pattern that recalls traditional susudake blinds, gently filtering light while maintaining an airy sense of space.

Along the lower register, solid wood panels are embellished with delicate openwork carving of a stylised mountain-and-pine landscape, adding a quiet scenic accent when the screen is folded or extended. Hinged joints allow flexible positioning, making this Showa-era room divider ideal for defining areas in a living room, bedroom, or tea-inspired interior while preserving a classic Japanese aesthetic.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
