Two-Section Kiri Wood Construction | Meiji-Style Reproduction with Original Meiji Hardware
Shōwa period kimono tansu crafted in solid kiri (paulownia), constructed in two stackable sections for ease of transport and traditional modular use. The form follows classic Meiji-era proportions, with four wide drawers designed for kimono storage and a lower right locking compartment.
This piece is a Shōwa reproduction of a Meiji-style tansu, fitted with original Meiji-period iron hardware. The bold hand-forged lock plates, corner brackets, strap hinges, and drawer pulls provide strong visual contrast against the warm-toned kiri. The aged iron patina enhances authenticity and character.
Interior drawers are lightweight and functional, reflecting kiri’s natural resistance to humidity and insects—ideal for textile storage. Side carry handles and traditional joinery complete the construction.
A well-balanced example that combines Shōwa craftsmanship with genuine Meiji hardware, suitable for both practical storage and architectural presence in modern interiors.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
