Taishō-era two-section kimono tansu with elegant kannon biraki doors and versatile drawer storage
This classic Japanese kimono tansu is crafted in two stacking sections, combining a broad upper cabinet with kannon biraki (double-opening) doors and a bank of multi-sized drawers below. The warm, straight-grain wood, framed edges, and understated metal pulls express the clean, modern sensibility of late Taishō design while preserving traditional tansu proportions.
Behind the decorative brass lock plates, the upper compartment offers generous storage for folded kimono or bedding, while the graduated lower drawers are ideal for obi, accessories, or contemporary use as clothing and linen storage. Original metal hardware, working locks with keys, and the modular two-piece construction make this chest both an authentic antique and a highly functional statement piece for today’s interior.
A refined Taishō kimono tansu that brings authentic Japanese craftsmanship and practical, organized storage to any space.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
