Taishō-era two-section kimono tansu with five full-width warabite drawers and original iron fittings
This classic Japanese kimono tansu is crafted as a true two-section chest, designed to separate for transport yet read as a single, harmonious cabinet in the room. The warm, straight-grained wood is simply finished to highlight its natural figure, while the full-width drawers offer generous storage for folded kimono, textiles, or modern wardrobe pieces.
Five graduated drawers run the full span of the case, each fitted with traditional warabite (fern-shoot) iron pulls and round lock escutcheons, one retaining a working key. Tall side braces and corner plates in blackened iron emphasize the vertical lines and speak to the chest’s original purpose as a durable household tansu from early 20th-century Japan.
A versatile Taishō-era kimono tansu that brings authentic Japanese craftsmanship and practical storage to any interior.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
